:: Good Judgment: The Intersection of Intelligence and Personality

Dr. Robert Hogan, Dr. Joyce Hogan, and Dr. Paul Barrett contributed a chapter for the book Ergonomics and psychology: Developments in theory and practice, which will be published in 2008. The chapter excerpted below covers academic study, evolutionary and adaptive models of intelligence:

"Managers and executives must frequently decide how best to allocate scarce financial and human resources. Each decision they make is the end result of a problem-solving exercise. The history of every organization is the cumulative sum of the decisions that result from these efforts at problem solving. The quality of individual managerial problem solving and decision making is a function of good judgment...Our central argument is that good judgment is a function of intelligence and personality."

:: Personality and the Fate of Organizations: Personnel Psychology Book Review

Dr. Robert Hogan's latest book, Personality and the Fate of Organizations, was recently reviewed in Personnel Psychology (Vol. 60, No. 4 - Winter, 2007) by Seymour Adler, Senior Vice President, Aon Consulting.

Adler writes, "If you have any interest whatsoever in personality, in organizations, in leadership - and especially if you are interested in all three - go online and order this thin volume. It is packed with more insight, entertainingly presented, than a shelf full of recent works on these topics. For the most part, the insight and advice rest on strong empirical findings. No wonder major contributors to empirical literature on personality and work behavior like Judge and Furnham have provided the publisher with their personal endorsements of the book." Read more...

:: Announcing the 2008 Hogan Workshop Schedule

Hogan Assessment Systems will offer three types of workshops this year tailored for executive coaches, HR directors or generalists, organizational development or training professionals, and industrial/organizational psychologists that are looking to become certified in using the Hogan assessments or looking to gain additional training focused on coaching or team building areas.

The two-day Hogan Assessment Certification Workshop provides an in-depth understanding of how to administer, interpret, and implement the Hogan assessment suite. The workshop provides a comprehensive tutorial on three Hogan inventories - Hogan Personality Inventory (HPI); Hogan Development Survey (HDS); and Motives, Values, Preferences Inventory (MVPI). Participants attending both days and successfully completing the workshop will be certified to use the Hogan inventories and will be granted Level C qualification. Also, for an optional fee, participants may complete a new process delivering simulation-based practice feedback to receive the Hogan Development Feedback Certification certificate.

As a prerequisite for Hogan Advanced Workshops, participants must have successfully completed the Hogan Assessment Certification Workshop.

The one-day Hogan Advanced Workshop*: Using the Leadership Forecast Series for Development will provide in-depth instruction regarding how to use the Leadership Forecast Series to build an individual development plan that can serve as the foundation for a coaching engagement. Workshop participants will learn about the Hogan Performance Model and how it can be used as a basis for integrating assessment data from a variety of sources. These data can be used to structure development objectives and outline development activities designed to improve individual performance.

The one-day Hogan Advanced Workshop*: Using the Leadership Forecast Series for Team Building provides in-depth instruction on evaluating team-based data to facilitate team development through customized training and consultation. Workshop participants will be trained in a Hogan designed methodology that incorporates Hogan materials and media. Participants will have the tools to identify team development strategies and to conduct comprehensive team building experiences.

All three workshop types are approved for recertification credit hours through the Human Resource Certification Institute and for continuing education credits through the American Psychological Association.
